Windows XP is a graphics-based operating system, which was created by the Microsoft Company to be used on a Laptop/PC. Windows XP was previously codenamed Whistler, developed by Microsoft developers in the mid 2000s.
Along with this project, Microsoft is also preparing the latest generation of Windows successor to Windows Millennium Edition / Windows ME, codenamed “Windows Neptune” to be projected as Windows NT.
After Windows ME was deemed less successful than Windows 98, Microsoft finally decided to merge the two Windows operating systems (Windows NT-based OS and Windows 9x-based OS) into one professional product.
WindowsXP is available in various versions. The most common editions of the WindowsXP operating system are Windows XP Home Edition, which is targeted at home users, and Windows XP Professional, which offers additional features such as support for Windows Server domains and two physical processors, and is targeted at the business user market.
Meanwhile, WindowsXP Media Center Edition has additional multimedia features that offer advantages for recording and watching TV shows & DVD movies, as well as listening to music. WindowsXP Tablet PC Edition is specially designed for the Tablet PC platform, which is a mini computer that uses a stylus.
WindowsXP was released for two additional architectures besides Intel i386, namely Windows XP 64-bit Edition for IA-64 architecture (Itanium) processors and WindowsXP Professional x64 Edition for x86-64 architecture processors.
There's also WindowsXP Embedded, a reduced-featured version of WindowsXP Professional for specific markets, and WindowsXP Starter Edition, which is being shipped to some developing countries. Versions of Windows based on the NT architecture are known for their stability and fairer efficiency than versions of Windows 9x.
WindowsXP presents a multimedia interface that is significantly designed, until the change is promoted by Microsoft as a more user-friendly interface than previous versions of Windows. WindowsXP is also the first version of the Windows series to use “Windows Product Activation” product activation to combat software piracy as it simplifies all authentication processes.
