Oscar is a bridge between OSC and Flash, just like flosc. Its purpose is to make Flash-based applications communicate with other OSC (and TUIO) compatible devices and applications on the same network.
Also, Oscar is made with Cocoa and Python (you can easily access the code inside the apk).
Some features:
- You can filter messages, reducing network costs (this is especially useful when using a minimal TUIO configuration, so no power card is needed, for example).
- The interface monitors network activity on both sides and shows the number of connected Flash clients (on the main window or as a badge on the application icon in the Dock).
- The app automatically updates like many other famous apps (thanks to the Sparkle framework).
- You can choose whether or not to filter for general OSC tags (by specifying them in the "OSC Filtering" options panel) and/or specifically for TUIO messages (by specifying them in the "TUIO Filtering" options panel ").
- You can choose to start the bridge automatically when launching the application (useful for automatic settings where oscar can even be added to startup items) or start and stop the server manually .
Technically, Oscar receives data from a UDP socket (which is the OSC/TUIO transfer protocol), converts that data into an XML message that Flash can understand, and transmits that data over a TCP socket to all both the client of the application to which Flash is connected (both on the local machine and/or on the network).
