Before reinstalling using a flash, you must first make a bootable on the flash. How to? You only need a Rufus application to boot the flash drive. Immediately, please refer to the following steps.

Creating a Windows ISO File Using the Media Creation Tool


Before starting to do the bootable process on the flash, you must have a Windows ISO file first. If you already have it, you can skip the following steps. However, if not please follow the steps below.

  • The first step, please open the Microsoft website or directly click the following Link.
  • Then, please scroll down and click Download tool now to start downloading the Media Creation Tool.
  • Wait a few moments until the download is complete.
  • When finished, please double click on the Media Creation Tool file that you just downloaded.
  • Then, Windows 10 Setup will appear, please click Accept to go to the next step. 
  • Then, please select Create installation media for another PC. Then, please click Next.
  • Then, please check the box Use recommended options for this PC. Then, please click Next. As in the image below.

  • Then, please select ISO File and click Next.
  • Then, please specify the location of the ISO file you want. Then, don't forget to click Save.
  • Then, please wait for the downloading process to complete.


Make a Bootable Flashdisk with Rufus


After getting the Windows ISO file, the next step is to make it bootable on your flash drive. Immediately, please follow the steps below.

  • First, please download Rufus on your PC or laptop. Please visit the official Rufus website or you can directly click on the following Link (Rufus Free Download).
  • Then, please scroll down and click Rufus to start downloading.
  • Wait a few moments until Rufus is successfully downloaded on your PC or laptop.
  • If it has been downloaded, please open the Rufus application. However, first make sure your flash drive is connected to your PC or laptop.
  • Then, in the Device section, please select your flash drive earlier. If the device name doesn't appear, try unplugging it and plugging it back in your flash.
  • Then, in the Boot selection section, please select Disk or ISO image. Then, please click Select.
  • Then, please select the ISO file that you downloaded earlier and click Open.
  • Then, in the Format Options section, the Rufus application will immediately adjust to the ISO file you have. So, just leave it by default.
  • Don't forget to check the Quick format and Create extended label and icon files boxes. And the last step, please click Start to start the process of making bootable on the flash. However, before you make a bootable, it is recommended to first backup the data on the flash drive.
  • Then, a warning window will appear saying that all files on your flash drive will be deleted. If you have done a backup, you can directly click OK to continue.
  • Then, please wait a moment for the bootable creation process which may take 10 to 15 minutes. It depends on the size of the Windows ISO file and the speed of the flash you are using.
  • If the process is complete, the process bar will completely turn green and read Ready. Please click the Close button and the flash is ready to use, don't forget to eject your flash drive safely.
